WhatsApp launches an official app for Windows and Mac

Nicolas BagesNicolas Bages

Until now the only way to use WhatsApp on our computer was to download independent apps such as WhatsMac or ChitChat. We already talked about these options on this blog.

This app looks like the web version. It’s still required to install WhatsApp on your phone. You can’t register from the desktop app, you have to install it on your phone first. After that, it works exactly like the web version. We need to scan the QR code with the phone app to access to the desktop version.

To download WhatsApp on your computer, visit this page: www.whatsapp.com/download. You must use minimum Windows 8 or OSX 10.9. I guess they are using Electron like Slack does.

I hope that Facebook will follow this good idea with it’s Messenger app. Meanwhile, fell free to use the very good FB MacMessenger.
